Subject: The Installation and Maintenance of Gravel Pathways

Preparation:
Existing material will be excavated five feet wide to a depth of 6 to 12 inches.

Material:
Graded base (often called Star Pac); this material consists of stone dust and 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch stones.

Installation:
When the excavation exceeds six inches, existing material will be replaced and compacted to achieve a uniform 6 inch ditch on top of which 6 inches of graded base will be installed and compacted to return to the preexisting level. Both excavation and final grading will be such that the pathway surface will be subject to a minimum of erosion and standing water.

Maintenance:
General. If erosion occurs, the pathway will be dressed up with additional graded base.
Town Center. From ATM building to 142 Bedford Road (where path crosses Rte. 225) there will be a spring clean up at the time that the DPW does a clean up around the library.

Snow Plowing:
General. A Bobcat will be used to plow the paths.
Special Conditions applying to town center in area described above.
· When the ground is not frozen and sufficient snow has fallen to require plowing, a snow blower will be used.
· When the ground is frozen, the Bobcat will be used.
· During mud season the paths will not be plowed.
