Current Footpath Project

Project Map    Project Funding    Project FAQ

The full extent of the Master Footpath Plan includes roadside paths approximately one mile in length on each of the main roads of Carlisle: Bedford, Concord, Lowell and Westford Roads and East Street.

The current project, with funding approved by the 2003 warrant article and ballot question, covers the first phase of the plan. This is approximately one-half of the longterm plan, or approximately ½ mile out from the center along each of the main roads, and is expected to take 5 years.  This project includes (see map):

School Loop: a small system of pedestrian paths that run along Church Street from the school down to Bedford Road, along Bedford Road from the rotary to Kimball’s/Banta Davis, and along School Street from the Spalding School Building driveway to the First Religious Society driveway. (The School Street - Church Street corner section is complete.)

Bedford Road: from the rotary/ATM, past the post office, to Kimball’s and Banta/Davis, where it is a short crossing to Davis Corridor, Fox Hill and the additional neighborhoods connecting to Stearns Street.

East Street:  from town center to Partridge Lane, from which the neighborhood of Meadowbrook, Hillside, and Woodbine roads can be reached; and to Cutter’s Ridge, from which the neighborhood of Tophet, Carleton, and East Riding Dr. can be reached; also connecting Blaisdell Dr., Carlisle Extended Day, and St. Irene’s Church along the way.

Concord Road:  from the town center to Bingham Road, connecting the neighborhoods of Bingham, Cross St., and Pheasant Hill Lane.

Lowell Road: from the Police Station (sidewalk already in place from Town Center to Police Station) to The Children’s Center and reaching to Old Morse Road from which the neighborhoods of Elizabeth Ridge and Sunset road can be accessed.

Westford Road:  from the Fire Department (sidewalk already in place from Town Center to Fire Station) to Towle Field from which the neighborhoods of Monroe Hill and Elizabeth Ridge can be reached.
