The Pedestrian and Bike Safety Advisory Committee was formed by the Board of Selectmen in 1997 to research issues related to road safety. In August 2000 the Committee became a formal advisory committee to the Board of Selectmen.

The Committee’s areas of concern are pedestrian safety, bicyclist safety, and linkage to state and neighboring town pathways.

The Committee's efforts in recent years have focused on the construction of roadside footpaths.
